Dear Companions of the Trail,
Today I had a session with a skilled healer who helped me process a traumatic experience from my toddlerhood. As always, I was shocked by how quickly healing happens: an agony I had carried in my body for 65 years was gone in an hour.
This is the month of the West in my classes and Meter Magic Spiral. The associated element is Water. Water has everything to teach us about the resilient capacity for healing we all carry in our hearts. Water forgives. It reflects. It instantly takes any shape that is needed. But it's key to remember how forceful water is, how incontrovertible its power, because the heart's love also is the fiercest healer.
The meter associated with this Direction, dactylic, is one of my favorites, the one that freed me from the rhythmical prison of my education.
Here's a dactyiic poem for you (and a video version below).
For the full effect, I invite you to read the poem aloud, ideally three times. SpeakItThrice!
FLOWER WHO WATERS ME
Trust me with growing too; how still I am,
Flower who opens my heart to run cool,
Trusting the rain, and the earth and the stem,
Cupped by the blossoms that bend without shame.
Flower who waters me, open my will;
Trust me with growing, too. How still I am.
Here comes a petal, as strong as a gem,
Guiding me down to where starlight meets soil,
Trusting the rain and the earth. And the stem—
Healing the touches I can overcome,
Flower who waters me, watches me wild,
Trust me with growing, too. How still I am:
Moving, I send my seeds. They are not tame;
Fertile, they're rooting to ring out a bell,
Trusting the rain, and the earth. And the stem—
Time-tongued and velvet and rough-cornered calm
Turning to, turning from — shattered, all full.
Trust me. With growing, too, how still I am,
Trusting the rain, and the earth. And the stem—

Dactyls are my favorite also. What you say about water taking shapes, the adaptability of water is also this meter's adaptiblity. I shape it; it shapes me.
