Meter Magic Spiral Journey starts this Sunday April 20 at 11 am PT/2 pm ET. * We will be reading, scanning, discussing, chanting, and absorbing a new meter each month for six months—and for those ready to dive into writing, the class also includes optional poetry workshopping of poems written in each month’s meter!
The spiral starts with Anapestic meter, the meter of our inner flame, will, creativity, passion, activism, ambition, and fiery transformation. This is the perfect time to start the full six-month Meter Magic Spiral Journey.
To share the magic of meter with the vibrant poetry community of the Sierra Poetry Festival this past weekend truly deepened my sense of the importance of this work. As I said during the poetic “Conversation” in which I particpated, if we truly believe that poetry is as important as we say it is, then how could we not choose to avail ourselves fully of all of its tools, especially in a time as fraught and crucial as this one? Isn't that our job?
Meter has been the essential core of poetry across the planet since the art began. And you already have it. You know it. The Meter Magic Spiral Journey invites you to dance with your knowledge at last, with this power in your body and heart and spirit, this power that is patiently waiting for you, ready to help your poetry enter an entire new frequency.
I have been teaching meter for 40 years. I know all the reasons that many of us avoid learning it. And I also know that, no matter how intense your resistance, there is a way through it for you--a way from which you will emerge truly, immensely grateful for this magical metrical heart of poetry, the part that truly can change your life.
